Geography of Grenada

Grenada’s spectacular natural topography is complemented by breathtaking beaches, beautiful waterfalls, and sprawling forests. Grenada is more rugged and densely foliated compared to other Caribbean islands. The highest peak on Grenada is Mount St. Catherine, standing at 840 meters.

Weather and peak times to visit

Grenada’s peak season usually runs from mid-December to mid-April. If you’re looking for a more private beach experience, try to travel during low season, which is between June – November. The climate is humid and tropical with May averaging the hottest month around 81 degrees Fahrenheit (averages around 78-80 year-round). Rainy season lasts from June to December with an average of 253mm of rain.

Time Zone, Currency and Language

Grenada is on Atlantic Standard Time (AST), which is one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) or 4 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time (PST).

The official language of Grenada is English, so you’ll have no issue with communication during your Grenada Honeymoon.

The currency in Grenada is called East Caribbean Dollar, with $1 USD equaling about $2.70 East Caribbean Dollars (XCD). If something cost $100 XCD it’s about $37 USD.

Getting to the destination

Grenada is located South of North America in the Caribbean. You’ll be relaxing on your Grenada Honeymoon after a few hours to a day of traveling, depending on your point of departure.

Airports for your Grenada Honeymoon

You’ll likely travel to your honeymoon destination from the nearest airport and fly into MBI, Maurice Bishop International on the main island of Grenada.

  • NYC: $404 (5 hours of travel, non-stop)
  • MIA: $521 (4 hours of travel, non-stop)

LGBTQ+ Considerations

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Grenada for our LGBTQ+ couples. Homosexuality is illegal and punishable with up to 10 years in prison. Same-sex partnerships and marriages are also not recognized in Grenada.

Food to Try

The national dish “Oil Down” is a type of stew made with a variety of spices, vegetables, and meats. Variations can include chicken wings or thighs, salted fish, salted pigtails, pumpkin, okra, spinach, bananas, and breadfruit. Ingredients are simmered to perfection in a coconut milk-based sauce with turmeric and ginger. “Oil Down” can be found at local dives and restaurants and is a favorite for weekend menus.
